Using The Preview Options

The Preview Options panel contains the following controls:

Preview all

By default, a preview shows you the current state of the section page or content item you are working on, including all changes you have made - even ones you haven't saved. If you select Preview all, then the preview will also reflect all changes made to other content on the page. For a section page, this means changes to the content items on the page. For a content item it means links to other content items, teasers and so on.

Open In browser

By default, previews are displayed in the editor's Preview tab. Clicking this button displays the preview in your default browser. Note that the options in the Devices / Dimensions section described below have no effect on this browser preview.

Devices / Dimensions

You can change the size and shape of the preview to match the screen size of various display devices by selecting the options in this section. There are three main options, intended to represent the main device classes of PC/laptop, iPad/tablet and mobile phone. Each of these options, however, has a drop down from which you can select more specific devices within each class. Precisely what options are available in these drop-downs depends on what has been configured at your installation. The iPad/tablet and mobile phone options also have graphics/rotate.png buttons which you can use to switch between portrait and landscape orientation.

These options only affect the internal Preview tab, not browser-based previews generated with the Open in browser button.

Time control

By default, a preview shows what the section page or content item you are working on will look like at the present moment. However, since content items can be set up to be publish and expire at specified times, it can also be useful to get previews that show what the section page / content item will look like at various times in the future. You can use the controls in this section to do that.

Click on graphics/reset.png to reset the preview to the current date and time.

Refresh preview

This button is only present if you have undocked the preview tab into its own window. Click on this button to see the latest changes you have made to the displayed section page or content item.
