Overlays

An overlay is a template that can be overlaid on another template in order to modify its appearance in some way. Overlays provide a means of adding flexibility to blueprints. Blueprints make it possible to enforce a common look and feel across a family of related publications. Overlays allow publications within the family to nevertheless express a unique identity, by differing from the common look and feel at specific points.

There are two different types of overlays that offer different levels of specialization: inheritance overlays and selective overlays. For further information, see Overlays.
