About Templates

In the Widget Framework, the word template is not usually used to refer to the JSP templates created by web developers, but to Widget Framework templates. A Widget Framework template is a re-usable page layout composed of widgets. Templates are edited using Content Studio. They are represented in Content Studio by special sections called template sections, and they are stored in special publications called blueprints.

If you open a blueprint with Content Studio then you will see that templates differ from publication sections in the following ways:

  • Name: template names always start with config.

  • Page content: instead of actual content items (teasers and so on), template section pages contains widgets.

  • The Page options property, which is set to config.

  • They are organized in a tree under a root template called config.

Here is a template section page opened in a Content Studio section page editor:

All the "content items" on this section page are in fact widgets.
