Editing Images

Content Studio provides some simple image editing tools for cropping, rotating and enhancing images. At most installations, the cropping tool is unlikely to be needed, since most publications are set up to support alternative image versions: multiple versions of images in different shapes and sizes for use in different contexts. Alternative image versions are stored in a separate field from the original image, which is usually called something like "Versions", "Image versions" or "Alternatives".

If alternative image versions are available, then you are always recommended to use them rather than to use the Content Studio crop function. The reason for this is that the alternative image versions let you publish a variety of cropped versions of an image without affecting the original image in any way. Editing the original image using the built-in editing tools:

  • Degrades the quality of the original image

  • Converts the original image to PNG format

You should therefore avoid doing so wherever possible.
