Editing Persons and Users

Content Engine person and user objects appear in Content Studio as Person content items and can be edited in more or less the same way as other content items. They are, however, subject to a different workflow and cannot be published. (A Person content item, can, however, have a related profile, which is an ordinary content item, and can therefore be published. Profile content items can be used to hold images, biographical details and so on for use in bylines.)

The difference between a person and a user is that a user is registered as a Content Engine user and has a login. When you open a Person content item you can see whether it represents a person or user by checking the Content Info box on the right of the editor: a user's content info includes a user name, whereas a person's does not.

Assuming you have administrator access rights then you can use Content Studio to:

  • Edit Person content items representing persons and users

  • Create new Person content items representing persons

You cannot, however:

  • Delete Person content items

  • Create Person content items representing users

To do these things you need to use Web Studio (see User Administration).

If you do not have administrator access rights then you can only edit your own user's Person content item or persons (not users) that you have created yourself.
